CP Community Newsletter 4.21 Tuesday, April 21A Message from the Community ManagerHey there, it's Kelly and I am putting the finishing touches on this newsletter from my backyard office (aka a lounge chair with a side table) I could get use to this... I love being outside in the sunshine, preferably at a beach, but give me fresh air and room to breathe and I am one happy gal. Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and this year's theme is climate action. Often, we take for granted this magnificent planet and climate change represents the biggest challenge to the future of humanity and the life-support systems that make our world habitable. So enjoy this Earth Day edition of the newsletter, get out in nature and go hug a tree. Love you, mean it.*the blog is last year's Earth Day at Columbia Plaza including some environmentally friendly tips you can apply every dayClick here to see the blog post. EntertainmentEarth Day ShowsEarth Day is all about celebrating the beauty of our fragile planet. Earth is a place of wonder and not all of us have the ability to explore its abundance, so these shows allow you to enjoy its splendor from the comfort of your home. Here are 11 Netflix shows to watch to celebrate Earth Day.Pro tip: if you have a projector, watch these outside while simultaneously admiring the sunset and starry night sky*some of my favorites that did not make the list because they aren't on Netflix: Free Solo (Hulu), Hostile Planet (Disney+), One Strange Rock (Disney+)Click here to see the list. Sadie BlossomsSurprise Plant Delivery! As you can see in the blog, last year, community members received a succulent to celebrate Earth Day.Since we can't be together this year, but I still want to celebrate, we've teamed up with Sadie Blossoms and the first 5 people to respond to this newsletter will receive a plant 😊The surprise plant could be a zz plant, snake plant, button fern or philodendron and will include a container and care tip sheet. From Sadie Blossoms: "We believe that 'happy flowers make happy days' and that having living things brighten your mood, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase happiness. Now, more than ever, we are happy that we can offer you something green and living to help brighten up your stay at home day and celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day!"Another way to celebrate virtually is to send an Earth Day e-card via Sadie Blossoms to help connect with friends and family.*all proceeds go directly to earthday.orgClick here to send an e-card. SustainabilityCincinnati (Virtual) Earth DayThe first Earth Day in 1970 mobilized millions of Americans for the protection of the planet in protest of environmental ignorance. The first Earth Day is credited with launching the modern environmental movement, went global in the 90's and is now recognized as the planet’s largest civic event.Check out the itinerary for this year's Cincinnati (Virtual) Earth Day hosted by the Greater Cincinnati Earth Coalition. From solar panel energy production to making paper airplanes and hummingbird nectar, there is sure to be an activity for you and your family to enjoy while celebrating Earth Day.*also there is a session (9:30a) about planting flowers from seeds for a pollinator garden which may be particularly useful for everyone that had me send them flower & veggie seeds :)Click here to see the list of activities. EducationalClimate Change ConversationJoin two local environmental activists, Rachael Belz and Keya Chatterjee, on April 22 from 3-4p as they discuss the real impact of climate change and preview upcoming opportunities for action. Despite amazing success and decades of environmental progress, “progress has slowed, climate change impacts grow, and our adversaries have become better financed,” said Earth Day network president Kathleen Rogers.“We find ourselves today in a world facing global threats that demand a unified global response. For Earth Day 2020, we will build a new generation of environmentalist activists, engaging millions of people worldwide.”Click here to join the discussion via Zoom call from 3-4p on April 22.
